Elderly People

Elderly

The level of functioning changes during life, but how we age is determined by different and interacting factors such as inheritance, lifestyle and disease. Physical activity in older days and before that is crucial for good health and function and also for maintaining independence from everyday life. Thus, it is highly possible to influence how to age. It is very important, especially for the elderly, to have a reserve capacity that allows to return to its previous functional level after a disease period. Reservoir capacity, for example aerobic capacity and muscle strength, can be reovered through training. Even bone mass can partially rubiult during training and a active healthy life.

Have trained many older people over the years. They get great results. This induvidual came to me when he was 82 years old. Stacked foot, with a stick and had never exercised throughout his whole life. The diagram shows his fat in percentage and the fat-free mass in kg over about the four years we were training. Notable is that he has gone up about 4 kg in fat-free mass (includes muscles); it is 1 kg per year. Meanwhile, he got less fat weight. That’s good! He has become stronger, more flexibly and balanced and also got better endurance. He does not need the stick anymore.
